Scars are formed as part of the natural healing process when the skin undergoes a repair response following injury, surgery, or certain skin conditions. The process of scar formation involves several stages:
1. INFLAMMATORY PHASE
This is the initial stage that occurs immediately after the injury. Blood vessels in the affected area constrict to minimize bleeding, followed by the release of inflammatory cells, such as white blood cells, to clean the wound and prevent infection. During this phase, the body produces collagen to support the damaged tissue.
2. PROLIFERATIVE PHASE
In this stage, which typically begins a few days after the injury, fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen) migrate to the wound site and start synthesizing collagen. Collagen is a structural protein that helps rebuild and strengthen the damaged tissue. Blood vessels also begin to regrow, bringing nutrients and oxygen to support healing.
3. REMODELLING PHASE
The scar remodeling phase is the final stage of the wound healing process during which the body works to reshape and refine the scar tissue. the collagen fibers in the scar tissue undergo rearrangement and realignment. This improves the strength and flexibility of the scar. The scar will initially appear red or pink.
4. WONDERSCAR
Our silicone products help to speed up the healing process by improving the appearance of scars through various mechanisms.
By maintaining moisture levels and preventing excessive hydration, silicone helps to regulate collagen production, promoting better scar formation. Using silicone to regenerate the affected areas is supported by both clinical studies and anecdotal evidence.
Silicone products like our sheets and gels are non-invasive and easy to use, suitable for various scar types and body locations.
